Our next concert on March 8th features Divine Music for Trumpets and Voices, a celebration of the life of George Frederick Handel written by Ben Hoffnung and David Blackadder. The performance incorporates choir, orchestra, soloists and an array of baroque trumpeters – all combining to raise the spirit of Handel.
With actor Douggie McMeekin playing the part of the elderly composer, we learn through a series of narratives of Handel’s early childhood and his time spent as a young man in Germany. We hear of his love of Italy, his triumphant arrival in Georgian London and his favour with no less than three reigning monarchs.
Selections from Handel’s prodigious and captivating output of opera and oratorio are on display with spine tingling arias, thrilling choruses, brilliant orchestral marches and trumpet fanfares, interspersed with captivating dialogue.
Previous performances of Divine Music for Trumpets and Voices have included a special concert for the Lord Mayor at the Mansion House and additional performances at the Cheltenham International Music Festival, at the Marlborough College Chapel for the former Duchess of Cornwall, St Martin in the Fields and the Grosvenor Chapel Mayfair.
